The Project: The Quilt Trail at Anderson Street Park

Hello! My name is Kate Eggleston, and I am creating a fiber art installation for Anderson Street Park as part of the Illumination 250 festival on October 3, 2026. This site-specific public art installation will feature colorful sewn quilts displayed throughout the park on trees, pathways, and gathering spaces. Inspired by photo albums and story quilts, the designs will incorporate images and stories shared by the Hackensack community past and present. The completed community quilts will be on public display during Fall 2026.

How to Participate

Community members are invited to submit photos, artwork, and stories connected to Hackensack, NJ and/or Anderson Street Park. Submissions should reflect memories, daily life, celebrations, local history, and community experiences from the past or present.

Examples of Photo Submissions

  • Family celebrations and gatherings
  • School events and activities
  • Community events
  • Local businesses and landmarks
  • Candid photos of family and friends
  • Historic or contemporary buildings
  • Artwork by local artists
  • Children’s drawings
  • Religious or cultural celebrations

Examples of Story Submissions

  • Memories of a favorite teacher
  • Stories about family members who lived/live in Hackensack
  • Local history, including Lenape history
  • School dances, sports events, community traditions, family celebrations
  • Revolutionary or Civil War history connected to the area
  • Memories connected to local homes, businesses, the park, or places of worship

Submission Guidelines

  • Submit by Sunday, June 14, 2026!
  • All submissions must relate to Hackensack, NJ and/or Anderson Street Park.
  • Stories may be submitted in any language.
  • Submitted materials must be family-friendly and appropriate for public display.
  • Submissions containing hateful, discriminatory, sexual, political, or promotional content will not be accepted.
  • All submissions will be reviewed and selected at the discretion of the artist and project committee.
