VERMONT, HERE I COME!

I’m happy to announce that I’ll be attending an artist residency at Vermont Studio Center in October for two weeks!

FOURTH TIME’S THE CHARM

Here’s a little backstory: the adventures of an artist applying to stuff! This was the fourth time I have applied for a residency at VSC. After the first two times I applied in 2014 and 2015, I received a simple pre-generated rejection email and no feedback (fairly common for artists, and nothing to take personally). Last year, after my third attempt, I was placed on a waitlist but never snagged a spot (at least I was on the right track!). While I was preparing my application for the fourth time, I reviewed my previous submissions and saw how much my portfolio and writing had improved. Not only was I accepted this time, I was also awarded a $600 scholarship to attend! The takeaway: if it’s something you REALLY want, keep applying. The organization you’re applying to may review your previous applications and see the growth in your work.

WHAT’S NEXT?

Fundraising! While the scholarship did make a dent, I still owe $1,450 for the tuititon balance. I researched various crowdfunding sites, but ultimately I decided on creating my own: KATEStarter! From now until August 31st, I will be selling limited edition handmade items and experiences on my website.

Why am I starting a fundraising campaign? To avoid dipping into our household savings, I need to 100% finance the residency by selling my work/services. I’m a freelance artist and teacher, and a stay-at-home mom. While I’m away in Vermont, I won’t be able to work for pay during those two weeks.

WHAT’S FOR SALE?

Shipping and handling is included in the item prices.
